Fort Dale Academy Dress Code
In keeping with the educational purposes of this school, students are expected to dress and groom themselves as individuals with a sense of responsibility. This policy should serve as a guide and it should be remembered that the headmaster or his designee has the sole authority to decide on the appropriateness of a student's dress or appearance. A student may be in compliance with the letter of the dress code but may still be inappropriate and unacceptably dressed.
NOTE: Even though the enforcement of this policy is focused primarily on grades seven through twelve, grades five and six should use it as a guide for their own dress and appearance.
ALL STUDENTS (Grades 7 - 12)
- Each student is expected to be neat and to wear and maintain clean clothing.
- No hats or caps on campus.
- No sunglasses worn or visible.
- No visible tattoos.
- No oddly dyed or styled hair.
- No camouflage, overalls, fatigues, wind or athletic pants.
- No improper language, signs, sayings, slang, advertising or suggesting the use of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs on clothing.
- No tee shirts. *
- No sweatshirts. *
*School related tee shirts/sweatshirts might be worn on special days with prior approval and official notification from the headmaster.
FEMALE STUDENTS (Grades 7 - 12)
- Pants - capri, ankle, or shoe length, no cut or frayed edges, belt should be worn when loops are visible, shorts must be hemmed and extend no more than five inches above the knee
- Skirts/Dresses - length should be no shorter than three inches above the top of the knee (including all slits) and should, in event, be appropriate.
- Shirts - must have sleeves, no skin should show around the waist area at any time under any circumstances, must have a collar or a neckline that rests around the area of the collarbone, no cleavage should be showing at any time
- Jewelry - no more than one earring in each ear, no other visible body piercing
MALE STUDENTS (Grades 7 - 12)
- Pants -no cut or frayed edges, no wide leg or baggy pants, must have belt loops and belt must be worn, shorts must be hemmed and extend no more than five inches above the knee
- Shirts - collared shirts only, must be tucked in at all times, pull over sweaters must have collared shirt worn underneath
- Shoes - closed toe, socks must be worn and visible
- Jewelry - no earrings or other visible body piercing
- Hair - sideburns not to extend pass the middle of the ear, no beards or mustaches, hair length neat and appropriate
CONSEQUENCES
Students inappropriately dressed will be referred to the office and parents will be contacted to bring appropriate clothing. Class work missed because of the referral will be unexcused. All offenses will be documented in the office per semester.
Repeated offenses will result in more severe penalties as follows:
1st offense - Warning
2nd offense - Detention/Parent Notification
3rd offense - Additional Detention /Parent Conference
4th offense - Suspension
Effective for the 2007-2008 school year:
- Fort Dale or AISA related tee-shirts and sweatshirts are allowed. No other types of tee-shirts may be worn.
- Clothing must be free of writing and/or pictures. Small, stitched-on logos are acceptable.
