Severe Weather Warning Procedures


When a Tornado Warning is issued for Butler County, Fort Dale Academy will implement the following:

1. One long bell will signal teachers to move students to the designated safe area. Following this bell, if possible, the headmaster will make an announcement over the intercom regarding further instructions.

2. Each building will have a walkie-talkie for communicating with Pat Sims in the office. Listed below are the designated teachers for each building:

* Science Building: Marcia Davis
* Computer Building: Daniel Autrey / Bess Nordgren
* Kindergarten Building: Debbie Hollyfield / Ellinor Nelson
* Field House: Speed Sampley

3. A message will be placed on the school's answering machine informing parents of our immediate plans.

4. In the event that the headmaster is absent, the chain of command will be as follows:

* Speed Sampley (consultation - Joyce Murphy)
* Daniel Autrey (consultation - Joyce Murphy)

5. Teachers with a planning period during the severe weather warning will report to the office for assignment.

6. A "neighboring" teacher will check on substitute teachers.

7. Students WILL NOT be allowed to leave campus unless his / her parents come to the school and checks them out.

8. When parents checkout students during a warning, the parent must go to the designated safe area and get their child.

9. Students WILL NOT be allowed to walk to the office alone.

10. When checked out, students should leave campus immediately. Students should not go to lockers before leaving.

11. Teachers will keep a record of those students who have checked out.

12. Fort Dale Academy will be communicating periodically with the Butler County EMA until the inclement weather has passed.

13. No student will be left unsupervised at any time.


Special Note: Each classroom will have an Emergency Kit that the teachers will need to keep accessible at all times.
